SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (August 02, 2010) – Beach lovers and ocean enthusiasts unite for clean water! The Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter hosts the 19th Annual Paddle for Clean Water on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010. The event starts with free breakfast at 9 a.m. and features the paddle around the Ocean Beach Pier at 10 a.m.

The paddle around the OB Pier at 10 a.m. features all sorts of paddlecraft – surfboards, bodyboards, kayaks, outrigger canoes, etc. – in a non-competitive paddle out and around the Ocean Beach Pier to raise awareness to pollution problems along San Diego’s coastline. The event will also include breakfast for all paddlers starting at 9 a.m., along with special guest speakers, music, a huge raffle with a new surfboard as the grand prize and a beach cleanup. Over 1,000 beach and ocean lovers are expected to take to the waters off Ocean Beach this year. It’s a free event and promises to be a morning of fun for everyone in the family.

San Diego-based surfing label, Surfing Is My Religion (SIMR) will be hosting a custom surfboard demo with a wide variety of surfboards to test drive on Sunday. Choose from a wide selection of surfboards including high performance shortboards, funboards, bonzers, fishes, and new to our 2010 Summer Surfboard Collection, the “One Love Rhino” single fin. The diverse selection of surfboards allow surfers of any skill to grab a board and have a great time. For more on how to get a custom surfboard visit www.surfingismyreligion.com.

“Paddling around the Ocean Beach Pier is not mandatory, but expect to have fun either in the water or on the beach. Bring a friend or three and share the stoke during the huge paddle out. Also, people can learn really interesting and useful information, like how to save money through home water conservation,” said Manase Mansur, Chair of Surfrider Foundation’s San Diego Chapter.
