Christopher Clark

Christopher Clark is founder and CEO of Surfing is My Religion (SIMR, Inc.), a privately held surfing label which includes Shaper Studios (3 Surfboard Workshops) and Foam & Friends (Reality TV Show). Inspired by the principles outlined in Yvon Chouinard’s Let My People Go Surfing, Clark ensures that Surfing Is My Religion stays true to its core values, using business to help serve a valuable and responsible purpose.

Clark grew up in Oakland, Calif. and holds an MBA, master’s degree in business administration and sports marketing, from San Diego State University (SDSU). Clark spent most of his college years immersed in action sports. As captain of the SDSU Waterski Team, he led the team to their first National Championship title since 1979, and served as the team’s head coach from 2008-2012.

Surfing Is My Religion was founded on three core commitments: environmental commitment to help offset the carbon footprint that surfers leave behind, including alternative inputs and support of groups like 1% for the Planet and the Surfrider Foundation; the growth of women in action sports by sponsoring and hosting charitable events and networking opportunities for women in the industry; and offering fully customized equipment to provide each client a unique and personal experience.

Shaper Studios, the world’s first public surfboard design workshop and retail store that opened on April 1, 2011 in a 2,500 square foot warehouse in San Diego. Shaper Studios allows any surf enthusiast to create and design their own custom board from the highest quality surfboard materials. Shaper Studios opened it’s flagship retail/workshop in North Park, San Diego on November 9, 2013. In 2014, the company is looking forward to opening a handful of new flagships around the United States and internationally.

Clark has been a key player in Surfing Is My Religion’s rapid growth and is primarily responsible for the development, oversight and execution of all strategic marketing initiatives and brand growth. From custom surfboard design and merchandising, to athlete management and action sports event marketing, Clark continues to grow the company to become a well diversified surf brand.

Clark also has experience in talent management and marketing, carving a niche for himself in the underrepresented women’s surfing industry and now representing and advising some of the top athletes in surfing.
